HOA Board Vice President – Job Description

Position Title: Vice President

Position Overview:

The Vice President of the HOA Board serves as a key executive officer who supports the President in leading the association and assumes leadership responsibilities in their absence. The Vice President ensures board initiatives are executed effectively, helps oversee committee operations, and plays an active role in strategic planning, communication, and governance.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership Support: Assist the President in managing board responsibilities, overseeing projects, and ensuring smooth operation of the HOA.
  • Acting President: Serve as acting President in the event of the President’s absence or inability to serve, assuming all duties and authority as needed.
  • Project Oversight: Take the lead on specific board-approved projects, community improvements, or operational initiatives.
  • Committee Liaison: Supervise and coordinate the work of committee chairs to ensure alignment with board priorities.
  • Policy Implementation: Help monitor compliance with HOA rules and support enforcement efforts fairly and consistently.
  • Meeting Participation: Collaborate with the President to set meeting agendas and assist in facilitating meetings as needed.
  • Resident Engagement: Assist in communication with homeowners and help mediate concerns or disputes brought to the board.
  • Assigned Committees: Serve on or oversee an assigned committee. Active participation is required.
  • Meeting Attendance: Regular attendance is expected for all board and committee meetings. Missing three (3) consecutive meetings without prior notice will be considered a voluntary resignation from the board.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a homeowner in good standing (no unpaid dues or unresolved violations).
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Familiarity with HOA governance, community management, or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, maintain confidentiality, and communicate effectively.
  • Previous board or committee experience preferred.

Time Commitment:

  • Approximately 4–6 hours per month for meetings, communications, and special projects. Additional time may be required when assuming the President’s role.
