HOA Board Member-at-Large – Job Description
Position Title: Member-at-Large
Reports To: HOA Board President
Term Length: 2 years
Classification: Volunteer, Elected Position
Position Overview:
The Member-at-Large is a non-officer board member who supports the HOA board in a broad capacity by representing the general membership, contributing to board discussions and decisions, and serving on committees. While not holding a titled officer role, the Member-at-Large plays a key role in advancing community goals and ensuring transparent, fair governance.
Key Responsibilities:
- General Representation: Serve as a liaison between the board and homeowners, sharing feedback, concerns, and ideas brought forward by residents.
- Board Engagement: Attend all HOA board meetings, including regular, annual, and special sessions.
- Committee Service: Serve on at least one assigned HOA committee and actively contribute to its goals and responsibilities.
- Meeting Attendance: Maintain regular attendance at board and committee meetings. Absence from three (3) consecutive meetings without prior notice will be considered a voluntary resignation from the board.
- Policy and Governance Support: Participate in reviewing governing documents, policies, and community regulations to ensure fairness and consistency.
- Event and Project Participation: Assist with HOA-sponsored events, improvement projects, and community outreach efforts.
- Voting and Decision-Making: Cast votes on board matters with the best interests of the community in mind.
- Communication: Help disseminate important information to residents and encourage homeowner engagement.
Qualifications:
- Must be a homeowner in good standing (no outstanding dues or unresolved violations).
- Willingness to serve on committees and participate in community initiatives.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate in a team setting.
- Commitment to uphold HOA rules, confidentiality (when required), and ethical decision-making.
Time Commitment:
- Estimated 2–4 hours per month for meetings, plus additional time for committee work or special assignments.
